Standard Recovery
The following is the recommended procedure to recover from general storage library, sub-system, and InveStore cache errors.
· Go into Control Panel and then the Service folder and Stop the InveStore service.
· Change InveStore service to Manual for now.
· Open Windows Explorer and locate the following sub-directory:
Program Files\veritas\data lifecycle manager\InveStore\bin
· Double-click on the file PDTEDIT.EXE. This will open the InveStore Registry Editor program.
· Make sure that the PREMOUNT ALL setting is enabled (checked). If not, enable it and then select APPLY and OK.
· Open a command prompt and change to the InveStore directory (|PDT).
· Delete the OFS*.* and the BTREE.XRF files found there. (This will remove all of InveStore’s reference to media and slot location. The next time InveStore is started, it will create these records based upon what the library reports that is there.)
· Close out the command prompt and then shutdown the Windows server.
· Cycle the power on the storage library.
· From the front panel of the storage library, execute the "init elem status" (Initialize element status) for an HP storage library. Or "Scan elements" test for a Plasmon or IBM type storage library. (This causes the storage library to re-inventory itself and to update its internal record of where media is. Please refer to your Library User Manual for details on this test.)
· Make sure that this passes without error. If the storage library reports an error to this test, you will need to have the storage library serviced.
· Restart Windows.
· Restart InveStore and let it rebuild the cache.
Assuming that the storage library is operational at this point, this procedure should place both the library and InveStore back into known valid states. Once the system is again running stably, change the InveStore service back to Automatic.
PLEASE NOTE: If the above sequence does not correct the problem, you will need to execute a trouble-shooting sequence in order to determine what part of your sub-system (PC, SCSI card, SCSI cable, terminator, Library) is causing the errors.
